I feel that we're losing some potential new players to confusion and overwhelming pages when they first log in. What happens is, they log in and are sent to Player Home.

I think that instead, we should be sending them to a separate Welcome page, which has a number of simple objectives for them to complete, a bit of help (in the form of wiki links, forum links, etc.), and perhaps a few checkboxes to complete (complete your profile: set avatar, set description, etc.).

If we could expose them to something a little less terrifying, I think we'd keep a lot more of them. We actually get a rather good supply of new registrations -- we could do with refining the pages they first visit (smiley)

If you have any ideas to make the new player experience easier, please let me know!

I'll post here if I make any progress myself. By the way, I'm not talking so much about attacking being made easier, or anything like that; instead, I'm referring to the actual game interface itself, and their inability to comprehend it(smiley)

If you're the sort of person that likes to explore, and isn't afraid to click a button or two, FutureRP is rather easy to figure out. If not, you'll log in, hit the Player Home page, have a heart attack, and/or log out(smiley)

well as a new player myself, ill say this much, you do need to explore a biit before you can g your bearings. also, the wiki feels as if made in a hurry, and incomplete. perhaps a better noob guide on the wiki as well, explaing how to explore a bit morre thuroughly would aslo help. i wouldve been compeletely lost had i not randomly clicked place lissted and found the noob area right of the bat...

Send them my way, I'll help out (smiley)

The tutorial / checklist / objective idea seems like the best way with a possible small reward for each task that they complete, that way they can learn the game and get rewarded while doing it.

Example - Upload your own avatar and get 10 points.

Also, not sure if this would work but you could a**ign some of the more experienced players in the game as sort of guides. Maybe make a page that can link straight to these players profiles where new players can ask the experienced players questions without fear of being told to get lost (smiley)

Nice idea. The forum would be a good place to have people ask their questions, but I don't think even the forum itself is advertised to new players as much as it should be.

The Player Home page that new players see is absolutely atrocious. It needs to be stripped down for new players. It might be worth making a completely different Player Home for new players, actually (smiley)
