After seeing CK's post I started thinking about what would be a reasonable difficulty level for a quest in order to receive a rare item. Here is an idea that might get us headed in the right direction:

As it stands right now it take one of the top guilds nearly the entire 6 hour limit to raid a level 150 boss, and it's not always guaranteed that there will be enough power, on the other hand, sometimes that same guild could beat that raid with a couple hours to spare. For the sake of this idea I'm going to a**ume the average completion of a level 150 raid is 5 hours.

What if we use that as a basis for questing rewards? For instance, if the quest reward is a level 150 item then it should take the player the equivalent time that it would take the guild to raid that same level boss, namely 5 hours. So if the quest is a farming quest. ( I.e. Kill x amount of y npc) it would take the player, a**uming the average speed of player attacks is 1200/hr, 6000 kills to finish that quest.

For higher level items I figured we can add an additional hour for each 10 levels, so for a level 200 item it would take an average player 10 hours to finish that quest.

Completing a quest could also give an EXP reward, no? Why are we thinking of items only?

That was just the issue raised in the shout box: What is sufficient effort in order to earn a high level item?

Exp rewards and the like are in a totally different ball game. For instance, if the quest was once again a farming quest you wouldn't really need a big exp reward at the end because you would have gained so much exp just for doing the farming.

Other than that the general basis of my idea might could still work in the case of exp rewards. If the quest takes an average player 1 hour to complete they could receive the equivalent exp of one hours worth of farming for their level.

It doesn't have to be a HUGE exp reward, but a decent one for many hours spent attacking seems adequate.

The thing is, you'll already have had an exp reward from attacking in the first place (smiley)

I agree though, it should give you something.

I like this idea very much!  If I understood it correctly.

So in order to get that quest in question to give you that 150 level item(now) you would have to make a fixed amount of attacks in a fixed amount of time? Sounds good. You would have to see some effort for the price. How the game is going atm that would be the best option there is!

And to add an idea to this.. we could also have quests that span through like 100 levels.

Let's say that you get a quest where a "hermit" asks that you have to get like ten items that his brothers stole from him ages ago. Those brothers are spread around the maps and to get those items back to the "hermit" you have to do quests for the other brothers?  You get that quest at level ten and the reward will have to wait till you're level 100. And of course here you would have a limit of like level 50 when you couldn't take this quest anymore. So that you couldn't take advantage on it by people that are already high level.

EXP rewards are not that big of an issue that they should be considered when thinking this.
